Before You Post That Job, Ask These 3 Questions

Hiring a new employee should never start with, “Let’s dust off that old job description and throw it online.”

Yet that’s exactly what many companies do—especially when things are moving fast.

At Hire Integrated, we believe great hiring starts with great questions. Slowing down just enough to think strategically before you post can save you weeks (even months) of wasted time, prevent costly mis-hires, and help you attract candidates who will thrive—not just survive—in your company.

So before you hit “post,” ask yourself:

1. What Business Goal Is This Hire Tied To?

Every role should serve a purpose that’s tied to your broader business objectives. Otherwise, you risk hiring for activity—not impact.

Ask yourself:
      • Is this hire meant to drive revenue, improve efficiency, reduce risk, or support growth?
      • What challenge or opportunity are they solving?
      • How will you measure their impact?

When you’re clear on the “why” behind the role, your job description becomes more focused—and so does your interview process.

2. What Does Success Look Like in the First 6 Months?

Too many job descriptions are laundry lists of responsibilities. But high-performing candidates want to know what success actually looks like.

Define:
      • Key milestones or deliverables in the first 30, 60, and 90 days
      • Tangible outcomes by the 6-month mark
      • How progress will be evaluated

This clarity not only attracts stronger candidates—it also improves onboarding, performance management, and retention.

3. What Kind of Person Thrives in Our Environment?

This is where hiring goes beyond the resume.

Think about:
      • Work style: Do they need to be highly autonomous? Or collaborative?
      • Values: What beliefs or behaviors matter most on your team?
      • Energy: Fast-paced? Methodical? Creative?

When you understand who succeeds (and who doesn’t) in your culture, you can screen for alignment, not just experience.

Smarter Questions, Better Hires

Asking these questions upfront might feel like extra work—but it’s the kind of work that pays off.
