How many times have you been asked “How are you a good fit for this role?” One too many times right? It’s one of the most asked questions during an interview and somehow we still get nervous answering it. Of course, we’re there for a reason and we believe we’d be a great fit for the position so why do so many people struggle? Here are a few tips on how to answer this question if you have an important interview coming up.
Practice, Rehearse, Prepare
Be prepared for any type of question. Hire Integrated has a bunch of blog posts including 15 Entry level questions & how to answer them. Go through different scenarios of questions to make yourself comfortable with anything that might come up. Next, rehearse these answers. It doesn’t have to be a word-for-word play but knowing certain points to touch on throughout the interview will help boost your confidence. Lastly, prepare, this means reviewing the job you’re applying to. Read the job description to really understand what the position entails and the qualifications they require. Understanding who and what they’re asking for to see if you really are the best fit, is the first step to helping you answer the interview question.
Highlight Relevant Skills
Most jobs require two different types of skill sets; hard and soft skills. Start off by naming skills relevant to the job. Hard skills are more technical, some examples are writing samples, research, certificates, etc. Examples of soft skills are critical thinking, teamwork, self-awareness, communication, etc. Employers are looking for anything you’ve developed in your past work experiences that relates to the position. The ideal candidate can go into specifics on their skill set, letting the employer know what they can potentially bring to the company.
Create Value
Show what you can bring to the table. The employer read over your resume, they know your education and qualifications. Now they wanna see what kind of person you are. Can you fit in with their culture? How will you fit in with the rest of the team? Be confident, and explain why you stand out from the rest. Describe ways you plan on helping the company grow. Show them that you’ve done your research and that you know their company’s values, what they do, and how they do it. Employers like to know you took the time to research the company before the interview.Â
Interviewing doesn’t have to be intimidating as long as you prepare, are honest, and show how you intend to bring value to the company. Check out the rest of our blog page on different interviewing tips.
